Suggestion:
The blades are made to hammer directly onto the back-end of the blade to cut and finish off leather piece.  It is however suggested to cover blade with a small piece of wood and hammer onto the wood instead of the blade itself.  This will safe your blades and keep them in good condition
 
TIP :  Always hammer onto a Poly or Wooden Board. Never hammer onto a hard surface i.e steel | granite etc. it will damage your blades.
This is relevant for all leather tools - they are made to last you a lifetime.
